I remember stopping by the Wetson&#x27;s in Far Rockaway, Queens,NYC with my parents..near where my grandparents had a summer place during the early 1960&#x27;s. I enjoyed eating their burgers, fries and sodas.  They were great!!! I worked at this Wetsons during my senior year in high school (69-70) never making it past counterman (no pc stuff back then). The chain was successful and expanded to other cities, including Chicago, Indianapolis, Cleveland, Dayton, Detroit, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Baltimore . They soon franchised the name and recipes into locations spanning more than half of the U.S. states and Winnipeg, Manitoba. Best burgers ever. What a disaster. I can still taste the ketchup, pickles, and onions. White Tower Hamburgers was a fast food restaurant chain that was founded in 1926 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.With its similar white fortress-like buildings and menu it is considered to be an imitator of White Castle chain that was founded in 1921. Someone else asked this before but I didnt see a response; hope somebody knows. I am sitting here in Long Beach  (CA that is) and the name just popped inot my head. Just heard it on Rewound Radios annual WABC REWOUND special. I was just telling my husband about Wetsons and the best childhood memoreis ever. Those buses ran on  overhead electric wires . To which I responded, but dad, theyre orange! When burgers lift up easily, flip, add two slices of cheese to each, close lid if using a grill, and cook on the other side for another 2-3 minutes for medium to medium rare. At its peak, Wetson&#x27;s had approximately 70 locations in the greater New York metropolitan area. That is the one they list as West Islip  and I think it is really Brightwaters! We had great mgrs. But still to this day White Castle is my favorite. Errol and his brother, Herb started Wetson&#x27;s Hamburger Drive-In. Westons , Lake Success, New Hyde Park, near Sperry Gyroscope  (my aunt was an engineer) and LI Jewish Hospital! The company has been through many iterations, declaring bankruptcy more than once, rising to as many as 504 locations in 38 U.S. states in the 1980s and falling to fewer than 20 locations on more than one occasion. The fast food chain existed. Everybody knows that McDonalds has better flies. Remember it well. Simple recipes for homemade grilled, pan-fried, gourmet, smashed, and stuffed burgers. TO ANTHONY BARBA: hope you got the details right. Then demolished, and in 1975 the McDonalds was built which is still there. The meat patties once thawed were a gray-greenish color. 1960-The nights were spent in Wetsons parking lot waiting for a race. I love that memory. YUP. I remember the Wetsons in Bethpage on Hempstead Turnpike across the road from the Pergments Department Store & Miles Shoe Store and next door to the Jolly Rogers Playland. I think it closed about 1978. We used to go there after the drive-in movies in Westbury. We had one in Syosset.  Of Hempstead Tpk,, down the road from Jolley Rodgers / Nunleys, on the north side was Pergament with McDonalds not far west down the road. The burgers always tasted fresh and hot and were a treat .
